CNN reports that Maher Tarabishi, held in ICE detention since October, was denied permission to attend the funeral of his son Wael Tarabishi, who died at age 30 from complications related to a rare inherited disorder. The detention prevented the father from saying a final goodbye while his family grieved. CNN contacted the Department of Homeland Security for comment on the decision.

CNN reports that detainees at a Texas immigration detention facility arranged a visible SOS message that could be seen from above. The facility held individuals accused of gang membership who were facing deportation under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act, until the Supreme Court issued a temporary block on those removals in April.
